2015 November Meeting Minutes

Pine Island Ridge Community Association

 Monthly Board Meeting

 November 16, 2015

ATTENDEES:  Ivone Palus, Rich Foreman, Yolla Blair, Bob Smith, Ron Hahn,  Judy Elliott, Mike Pocius, Vera Lippie, Cindy Ferrini, Marc Zubeck, Sharon Moore, Cheri Aleksic, Dave Kwiatkowski, Elizabeth Sengupta, Neal Kostelyk.  Homeowners present:  Joshua and Marta Lawrence, Deana Lawrence, Phyllis Foreman, Karen Danko, Kurt Krueger, Karen Brock, Jim Ortz.  Town guests present:  Councilman Mike Troxell.  A proxy was received from Juris Jauntirans.

Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Palus.

TOWN GUESTS

 Updates provided by Mr. Troxell

  • Thanked everyone for their vote of confidence in re-electing him as Councilman.
  • Nothing to report from either the Schererville Fire Department or the Schererville Police Department.
  • Drainage projects in Pine Island subdivision have been completed.
  • Will send a letter to the DOT regarding the timing of the traffic light at Pine Island Drive and U.S. 30.

 

President Palus thanked Mr. Troxell for the updates and invited him to stay for the remainder of the meeting if he so wished.

 

MINUTES FROM OCTOBER 19, 2015 BOARD MEETING

 

Marc Zubeck made a motion to accept the minutes, and Judy Elliott seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 2015

 

One additional homeowner paid their assessment.

 

Rich Foreman made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented, and Sharon Moore seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

COMMITTEES

 

Commons area/Landscape

  • Sharon Moore reported that tree numbers 45-48 have been taken down.
  • North commons area work to repair rut damage from Access Tree Service truck is done. The area will be re-seeded in the spring.  Committee to follow up in the spring.
  • Hanley Lane drainage issue reviewed by Dave Kwiatkowski, Mike Troxell and Jeff Huet. Some debris was cleared by Bob Volckman.  Town engineer to cover the eroded area to prevent more issues.  Mike Troxell will provide a future update on the final plan.
  • The dying bushes at Twin Lakes will be revisited in the spring

 

Ponds

  • Dave Kwiatkowski stated that Aquatic Weed Control estimate for treatment is $800 an application. We would require 2-3 applications.  Bob Smith to look over contract with Seasons to see if we have the right to cancel.  Board is to decide if we will continue with Seasons treating the weeds.

 

Playgrounds

  • Nothing to report

 

ARC

  • Homeowner at 5510 W. 85th requested to build a free standing garage. Request was rejected as this is not allowed under the covenants and by-laws.  Town granted request.  President Palus to send an email to Town Manager Bob Volckman and Code Enforcement Officer Sam DeCero stating that any requests from PIRCA homeowners for various permits must be brought to the attention of the ARC before approval of permits.
  • Homeowner at 4866 84th Terrace constructed a playground on the front of their property. Homeowner did not request approval from the ARC.  PIRCA attorney issued a cease and desist order to the homeowner.  Homeowner and spouse present to appeal letter from attorney requesting removal of playground equipment.  A motion was made by Marc Zubeck and seconded by Cheri Aleksic to suspend any fines for 30 days while the ARC reviews the issue.  Motion passed unanimously.  A letter from the Board will be sent to the homeowner with a final decision.

  • Nothing to report.

 

Communications

  • 4 new homeowners welcomed to Pine Island
  • Winter newsletter sent to printer on November 13 for release to homeowners
  • PIRCA website updated with committee assignments

 

Special Events

  • Hyles Anderson College expressed their gratitude for the clean up provided by homeowners after our Annual Meeting.

 

OLD BUSINESS

  • Nothing to report

 

NEW BUSINESS

  • Homeowner Mrs. Danko asked the Board for assistance with a fence put up by her neighbor. Ron Hahn (ARC) stated that the Town had issued a permit for the fence, and any concerns and questions need to be addressed to the Town.
